What does Iraq mean to us?
The support of Croatian ruling and oppositional politicians for the war in Iraq has shown that they are a part of the globalized world, a world, which does not see ordinary people in its crusade on terror and terrorism. The suffering and death of ordinary people in the destructions of war are mere collateral damage. We expected more solidarity with the suffering of innocent civilians from people who represent a country, which only recently lived through a war itself . We know what war is and we do not want others to go through it! We want Croatian politicians to promote and present the ideas and values of world peace and conflict resolution with the same eagerness as they promote economical, military and strategically interests. No blood for oil!
The imperialistic politics of the United States abuse human rights rhetoric
to justify its domination over world capital and resources. Tolerance
and support for local dictators when they are cooperative and waging wars
for their dethronement once they stop cooperating has already brought
this world on the edge of global conflict. History gave us a lesson that
we ought to do everything in our powers to prevent the horrors of war.
This is why our message for domestic and international advocators of military
intervention in Iraq is: Not in our names!
The civic coalition “No More Wars!” aims to show that there is another
Croatia, which is also part of a globalized world but a world, which demands
end to wars, terror, terrorism and human rights violations. A world, which
still believes and tries to prove that a different (and a better) world,
is possible.
