ACTIVE - Promotion of the youth participation in decision-making at the local level

Purpose and goal of the project
Main objective of the program "ACTIVE" is to promote participation of youth in decision making at the local level, mobilise youth and high school teachers for creating the values pertinent to promoting democratic society and the rule of law, and through the use of the local radio stations for the promotion and affirmation of youth issues.

Target groups are youth age 15-29 and high school teachers.

Project takes place in war affected areas of Sibenik-Knin County, Lika-Senj County and Zadar County.

Objectives:

1. to improve democratic standards in war affected areas through mibilization of youth and high school teachers for creating new values pertinent to promoting democratic society and the rule of law

2.to enable youth in local communities to increase their role in decision making at the local and eventually national level by using the mass media for the affirmation of youth issues

3. to promote and improve the means for increasing the awareness and understanding of human rights among young people in Croatia by providing recommendations for the implementaion of the National Program of Education for Human Rights

Activities:

a) training of teachers in human rights

- gender sensitivity (live and online training) in collaboration with CESI

- non-violent communication skills in collaboration with Small Step

- human rights in collaboration with the Center for Human Rights

- MIRamiDA training in peace building in collaboration with the Center for Peace Studies

- civic education in collaboration with the Center for Peace Studies

b) human rights education for youth

- training: gender sensitivity, MIRamiDA, human rights, non-violent communication, civic education

- panels on the strategic use of ICT including open source philosophy and privacy on Internet

c) public debate in collaboration with the Croatian Debate Society

topics: violence against women, rights and responsibilities of citizen, lustration

d) radio broadcasting - youth issues

- training for local youth in creating radio broadcast

- creation of the youth relevant program for local radio stations in Drnis and Kistanje
